LAHORE - Rawalpindi Zone lifted the title of the Army Polo Championship after overcoming Peshawar Zone in a nerve wrecking final carving out narrow victory of five and a half goal to five goal here on Sunday at Lahore Garrison Polo ground/
Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, was the Chief Guest on the occasion and witnessed the final which produced high quality display of polo with keen interest. The Rawalpindi Zone struck brilliance in a thrilling final and won the elusive title in style. Mangla Zone took the third place beating Rawalpindi in day’s earlier fixture by six and a half goal to three.
The final could not have been a more fierce fight between two incredible teams, Rawalpindi Zone and Peshawar Zone. The players and ponies jostled for the lead continuously with each taking their turn at the top. In the end it all came to a head in the last chukkar when Maj Gen Asfandyar Pataudi scored a spectacular goal with the back hander taking Rawalpindi Zone's score to 5 1/2 goals, just 1/2 goal ahead of Peshawar Zone and secured victory and title for this consistently high quality team.
